ABOUT Timber Harvesting

Low-impact timber harvesting is a sustainable approach to logging that focuses on protecting the health of the forest while still producing valuable timber. This method uses careful planning and specialized equipment to minimize soil disturbance, preserve young trees, and protect water quality. By harvesting selectively and avoiding unnecessary damage to the land, low-impact logging helps maintain wildlife habitats and encourages faster forest regeneration. It’s an environmentally responsible way to manage timberland—balancing economic returns with long-term forest health and ecological stability.

The Harvesting Process

Forest With Tall Trees

Timberland Survey & Evaluation

The first step begins with a meeting with the landowner to discuss your goals and walk through the overall process. Next, a 3 Rivers Forestry technician will walk your property to assess timber health and value, while also looking at the big picture of long-term forest management.

During this assessment, we focus on leaving healthy young growth and maintaining wildlife habitat throughout the operation. Responsible forestry isn’t just about harvesting timber — it’s about creating balance for future growth and wildlife. In fact, after a logging operation, new habitats often form, supporting a more diverse and thriving ecosystem.

Once the survey is complete, 3 Rivers Forestry will present a detailed harvesting and land management plan specifically tailored to your property — one that maximizes timber value, promotes healthy regeneration, and aligns with your land management goals.

Forest Picnic Area

Beginning The Harvest

Once the harvest begins, trees are carefully brought to the landing area, where they are sorted by species and grade. Our highly trained operators then merchandise each log to ensure every tree is used to its maximum profitability and potential.

At the landing, loads are organized and stacked according to market specifications, ready for transport. Each trailer is loaded with specific quality logs and delivered directly to the appropriate sawmills and markets, ensuring top value and efficient processing.

From start to finish, our focus is on precision, efficiency, and responsible forestry — making sure every part of the harvest contributes to a healthy forest and a profitable return for the landowner.

During The Harvest

The trees that are brought to the landing area are sorted by species and grade. Our highly trained operators merchandize the logs to maximize each trees profitability.  Loads are sorted and piled awaiting transport to the sawmills.   Trailers are then loaded with specific quality logs and delivered to the sawmill markets.

After the Harvest

After the harvest, our team works thoroughly to restore your property. Major logging roads are graded and equipped with water bars to minimize erosion. The landing area is cleared of debris and then seeded with a lush grass mix to promote healthy regrowth.
